Take note of every detail, every wrinkle, and every eyelash. Newborns and babies are constantly changing so take this time to capture them as they grow. Newborn photos are best done within ten days of your little one’s life. This will capture them at their newest state that will fly by so quickly. It has been nine months in the making and you will want to remember the precious days when they were small and still. Babies are so delicate and I want you to remember visually what you felt. All babies are different and each month unlocks a new stage of who they become so weather you are interested in newborn photos of crawling photos I want to be there to capture those memories for you. If you have any questions, please contact me with anything. I'm happy to help make this special time a lifetime of memories. Call 203-641-8310 or email

10 tips for newborn photography

  1. Timing: Newborns change day to day and week to week to capturing the moment weather it is one week or six weeks is so precious. To capture those perfect beautiful newborn looks it is best to have professional photographs taken two to ten days old. At this age you can get all those curled, small compact newborn photography positions. After ten days babies tend to sleep less which can be lovely too but you will get less of the curled up sleep look. But if you can't fit a photography session within that small window, don't sweat it. At any ages, newborns are simple precious and worth capturing.
  2. Scheduling: The best time to schedule your newborn appointment is while you are pregnant. When you contact me you can tell me your due date and I will mark it on my calendar. Once you give birth, make sure to call or have a family member call me so we can set up a time for your photo shoot.
  3. Nap Time: I recommend scheduling your appointment based on your newborns nap times. If your newborn does not have a set schedule, I recommend you feed your newborn a few minutes before I arrive so he or she is more apt to settling into the photography setup where we can work on getting sleepy and comfy photographs. If your baby often gets stomach aches or cranky after eating, then I recommend feeding them 30 minutes before our session. During the session if your newborn needs to eat or be held please feel free too. This session is all about your newborn and getting the best images possible. I try to cultivate and relaxed and comfortable environment for you and your newborn.
  4. Comfort of Home: All newborn photography sessions are done in your home. The baby and the rest of the family can be comfortable. This allows for easy feeding and allows you and baby to be comfortable.
  5. Don't Worry: Babies can sense changes and new people, so I find it best to try to keep things as normal as possible with a newborn. Do not worry if they are cranky. We will make it work. I have all essential things to aid newborns in sleep and make them as comfortable as possible.
  6. Set up: When I come to your home with all the equipment and props necessary to get amazing photographs of your newborn and your family, we will look around for the best spot even if that means needing to move some furniture around. But have no fear, I will put it all back just the way it was before I came.
  7. The Essentials: It is helpful to have burp clothes, diapers, wipes and a few changes of clothes. I like to start with the nude or nearly nude photographs. I have plenty of cover ups, so if you do not want to take off the diaper you do not have to, but if you want to do totally nude images, I have the proper clothes in case there is a likely spillage.
  8. Keep it Warm: Also, when taking a photo of the baby in his or her birthday suit, it is important to keep the house temperature warmer than usual. Without clothing, the room temperature still needs to keep them warm and comfortable.
  9. Join the Fun: I highly recommend taking photos with your newborn. While I know you just gave birth to a beautiful baby, it is such a special time that it is worth taking the opportunity to pose in some photos as well. You do not need to get all done up. We can do real casual and natural photos for new moms with their newborn. But if you have no interest in being in the pictures, it is more than ok. This is your session, so it up to you.
  10. Post Production: Newborn sessions are some of the most labor intensive session both during the shoot and after. Your baby is beautiful, and I want to make sure the photographs I present to you are perfect. While I edit, I take extra care in making the skin beautiful, which can mean taking out discoloration, blemish and dry skin.
